Armed Forces Day at RAF Wyton

Cambridgeshire Police and the Vision Zero Partnership had the pleasure of attending the Armed Forces Day at RAF Wyton on Saturday 25th June 2022. PC Jon Morris, Casualty Reduction Officer, and Graduate Management Trainee Ray McCappin enjoyed a day of speaking with families and young adults about the importance of road safety.

The pair brought our damaged Mini Cooper to showcase what can happen when you fail to consider the fatal four (not wearing your seatbelt, being under the influence, speeding, and using your mobile phone).

The Mini Cooper was popular with the public, with older children wanting to see the airbag and know what happened, while young drivers and learner drivers were able to apply the cars story to their own driving and lives.

As well as the car, plenty of educational resources were given to children and families, such as colouring books, workbooks and stories all with road safety messages. Reflectors for school bags and tyre tread gauge keyrings for drivers were also popular.

Jon and Ray had the pleasure of talking to a variety of people, from young cadets to Cllr David Cole, the Mayor of Huntingdon.

Ray says: “It was a lovely event, and we are grateful for the invitation to meet friends and families of our Armed Forces and spread messages to help keep them safe.”

We hope everyone that attended enjoyed their day as much as Jon and Ray did!
